Gentlemen! I actually had a situation in my job where I was saved by… the horsetrack hooligans! I was walking from Lund university, and I got talking with a person, speaking only english, with a north american accent. Later on, as I was walking to the train we started talking again, and it turned out she had been living in Kitsilano since the early 90’s. She was mighty impressed by the fact that i knew of both Hastings, Richmond, Surrey, Abbotsford and Chilliwack. I could even crack a half-harted joke about there beeing a lot of substance users in Surrey, to her enjoyment. So, my gratitude to the Downs for helping me avoid akward chitter-chatter on my commute.

Also, I have another Canada-related thing. Have either of you seen the canadian tv-show Orphan black? Set in Toronto, it is a cyberpunk series (but good). I realy think you guys would enjoy it.

To clairify: She and I worked at the same facculty on the uni, and we met there first. I didn’t just go up to her and start talking like a some kind of crazy person.

And let’s be clear, talking to people without provocation is crazy! You made the right decision.
